Collision Project
What is the Collision Project? The newest addition to the Theatre for Youth and Families, Collision Project, was the brainchild of the Alliance Theatre’s Jennings Hertz, Jr. Artistic Director Susan V. Booth. Collision consists of a new play “devised” by a group of high school students (specially selected though interviews) with the assistance of a playwright, The Sally G. Tomlinson Artistic Director of Theatre for Youth Rosemary Newcott, the Theatre for Youth Administrative Director and an Alliance dramaturg.
Through this dynamic project, metro Atlanta teens create theatre for and about themselves by “colliding” with a dramatic text during a three-week summer workshop. The playwright then takes the material generated in the workshop to create a 6-person touring show. Less than a year later, the final piece tours to area high schools with a cast of university actors directed by Newcott. The main objective is to create a sense of “ownership” for young people, a sense that theatre can address their particular ideas and feelings.
The Collision Project is a fantastic way to become a part of the South’s premiere regional theatre company, meet and collaborate with professional theatre artists, participate in an innovative creative process, and make great new friends from schools all over the metro area!
