Her work merges contemporary modern dance with immersive technology\, poetic storytelling\, and radical pedagogy to illuminate narratives rooted in identity\, history\, and community. With a choreographic language that is physically evocative and emotionally resonant\, Lang invites audiences into powerful\, subjective experiences shaped by cultural memory and collective inquiry. \nAs an Associate Professor and the Inaugural Chair of the Dance Performance and Choreography Department at Spelman College\, Lang has reimagined dance education through a decolonial lens; developing curricula that frame embodiment as a 21st-century intellectual\, artistic\, and civic practice. Her courses interrogate the movement of Black bodies through historical\, political\, and liberatory frameworks\, positioning the classroom as both studio and site of social reckoning. Her innovative integration of XR technology has earned her national recognition\, including the 2024 Black Public Media Fellowship\, 2022 and 2024 Emory University Arts & Social Justice Fellowship\, and 2023 Princeton University’s Collaboration\, Research and Innovation Grant. She received a National Endowment for the Arts award for her project Out From the Deep: Unraveling Them Turners; a historically grounded\, technologically immersive dance work and recently a 2025 UNCF/Mellon Teaching and Learning Institute grant award for her professional work with T. Lang Dance. \nLang was the 2024 National Dance Educators Organization (NDEO) award recipient for the Outstanding Dance Educator in Higher Education (Established category). Lang expanded her work as Movement Director for fashion haus EUKONO for their collaboration during Paris Fashion week 2025. She continues her new developments with movement and creative technology with artist residencies at Georgia Tech and Duke University as she begins creating for her upcoming work\, Thighs of Thunder. Lang received her BFA at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and her MFA at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Lang\, the acclaimed Spelman College professor and Artistic Director of T. Lang Dance. As a precursor to the evening performance of Duel Reality\, this conversation will explore the connection of movement\, dance\, and the body when it comes to storytelling\, and other subjects around dance as a theatrical convention. \nThis conversation will be facilitated by Spelman Leadership Fellow and choreographer for the Alliance Theatre’s Underground Rep\, Kerrington Griffin. \nGet Show Tickets \nPerformances of Duel Reality run on The Coca-Cola Stage February 5 through March 1\, 2026 – learn more. \n\n\n\n\nT. Lang is a shape-shifting architect of embodied Black futurism. Her work merges contemporary modern dance with immersive technology\, poetic storytelling\, and radical pedagogy to illuminate narratives rooted in identity\, history\, and community. With a choreographic language that is physically evocative and emotionally resonant\, Lang invites audiences into powerful\, subjective experiences shaped by cultural memory and collective inquiry.As an Associate Professor and the Inaugural Chair of the Dance Performance and Choreography Department at Spelman College\, Lang has reimagined dance education through a decolonial lens; developing curricula that frame embodiment as a 21st-century intellectual\, artistic\, and civic practice. Her courses interrogate the movement of Black bodies through historical\, political\, and liberatory frameworks\, positioning the classroom as both studio and site of social reckoning. Her innovative integration of XR technology has earned her national recognition\, including the 2024 Black Public Media Fellowship\, 2022 and 2024 Emory University Arts & Social Justice Fellowship\, and 2023 Princeton University’s Collaboration\, Research and Innovation Grant. She received a National Endowment for the Arts award for her project Out From the Deep: Unraveling Them Turners; a historically grounded\, technologically immersive dance work and recently a 2025 UNCF/Mellon Teaching and Learning Institute grant award for her professional work with T. Lang Dance. \nLang was the 2024 National Dance Educators Organization (NDEO) award recipient for the Outstanding Dance Educator in Higher Education (Established category). Lang expanded her work as Movement Director for fashion haus EUKONO for their collaboration during Paris Fashion week 2025. She continues her new developments with movement and creative technology with artist residencies at Georgia Tech and Duke University as she begins creating for her upcoming work\, Thighs of Thunder. Lang received her BFA at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and her MFA at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.\n\n\n\nKerrington Griffin [she/her] is from Baton Rouge\, Louisiana who received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance & Choreography from Spelman College. She is currently an Alliance Spelman Leadership Fellow and has been Underground for the past few months. She will debut her work as chorographer for Alliance Theatre’s Into The Burrow: A Peter Rabbit Tale and The Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Experience this upcoming Spring! The event will feature staged readings and discussions with the cast from the Alliance Theatre’s world premiere production of Fires\, Ohio. \nThis event is free – reservation required. \nRSVP \n\n\n\n\n\nPaul Root Wolpe is the director of the Center for Ethics at Emory\, the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Bioethics\, the Raymond F. Schinazi Distinguished Research Chair in Jewish Bioethics\, and a professor in the departments of medicine\, pediatrics and sociology. He also serves as the first bioethicist for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration\, where he formulates policy on bioethical issues and safeguarding research subjects. \nHis teaching and publications range across multiple fields of bioethics and sociology\, including death and dying\, genetics and eugenics\, sexuality and gender\, mental health and illness\, alternative medicine\, and bioethics in extreme environments such as space. DESCRIPTION:2:00 PM // Performance of A Christmas CarolPost-Show Discussion in the Event Room – Second Floor \nImmediately following the performance\, join Emory Center for Ethics Director\, John Lysaker\, and community leaders as they discuss a special holiday themed topic from A Christmas Carol\, The Spirit of Giving: What did Scrooge Learn? \nThis 30 minute conversation will engage the audience to discuss what the primary takeaways are from Scrooge’s journey and what comparisons we can make to giving and supporting our community in today’s world. \nEvent is free to attend for ticket holders. \nGet Show Tickets \n\n\n\n\n\nJohn Lysaker\, Director of Emory University Center for EthicsJohn is the William R. Kenan University Professor at Emory University and Director of its Center for Ethics. Educated at Kenyon College and Vanderbilt University\, he also has taught at the University of Oregon. His central interest remains the good life writ large and various phenomena that enable and/or frustrate its emergence\, including the nature and import of art\, serious mental illness\, and friendship. Because ethical life courses through a wide field of usages and images\, his work engages historical texts as well as contemporary philosophers alongside and in dialogue with poets\, songwriters\, musicians\, and painters. \n\n\n\n\n\nJonathan Halitsky\, Backpack Buddies of Metro AtlantaJonathan has always been around food and drink. As a kid\, he’d “help” his wine salesman father at tasting events while expanding his taste buds by dining at his father’s upscale restaurant accounts. Meanwhile\, his art teacher mother instilled a flair for the creative. At Syracuse University’s Newhouse School\, Jonathan honed his communication skills\, leading him to launch his career in Marketing and Advertising in New York City.Developing expertise in Sports and Entertainment event marketing\, Jonathan and his Atlanta-native wife Rachel made the move South to begin a family\, which now includes 12-year-old daughter Hazel and puppy Griffin. For over a decade\, Jonathan led events for major brands such as AT&T\, Cupcake Vineyards\, and ConAgra Foods at major events including NCAA Final Four\, Coachella\, Lollapalooza\, Wrestlemania\, and the Tribeca Film Festival.After a mid-career sabbatical\, Jonathan returned to his culinary roots to launch JRB’s BBQ\, Atlanta’s personal BBQ chef\, and BBQ coach.
