SUMMARY:MILLIONS: A Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:6:30 PM // Pre-Show Discussion in Event Room – Second Floor7:30 PM // Performance of Millions \nPlease join us for a special community conversation around Millions\, moderated by John Lysaker\, Director of Emory Center for Ethics\, with a panel featuring Jennie Lobato and Patsy Garrett Townsend. Using Millions as its foundation\, this will be a community leaders engage in a discussion relating to the musical’s themes and main idea of the power we have to affect change in our community. The organizations represented will speak to their work directly impacting this change and what other organizations and individuals can do to apply change in ways that are relevant and connective to them. \nCommunity conversations are free for ticket holders. No RSVP required.  \nGet Show Tickets \nLearn more about Millions. \nBIOS\n\n\n\n\n\nJennie Lobato is the founder and CEO of drawchange. Established in 2009\, drawchange is an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission of empowering unhoused and impoverished children through art therapy-based programming. Our programs instill essential coping skills such as Self Esteem\, Imagination\, Collaboration\, Empowerment\, Dream Building\, Creation\, and Stress Relief. Since our founding\, drawchange has served over 16\,000 children across Atlanta and beyond. Partnering with homeless shelters and community centers\, drawchange has supported the mental health needs of unhoused children for 16 years and counting. Our impact has also grown beyond Georgia through our “Art Beyond Borders” program\, which implements our unique curriculum and training materials to guide anyone in establishing a drawchange program anywhere in the world. This program now serves children in Florida\, the AZ/MX border\, Costa Rica\, Puerto Rico\, and Ethiopia. Our home office and the bulk of our direct service programs remain in Atlanta.  \nIn 2019\, we launched drawchange Art & Percussion Camp. This unique summer camp implements our art therapy-based curriculum along with enrichment activities such as music and percussion exercises\, team-building games\, and intentional activities designed to promote self-esteem and a sense of community. We offer full tuition scholarships\, transportation\, and meals for all participating children\, providing summer childcare for under-resourced working families along with access to therapeutic programming.  \nAt drawchange\, we remain deeply committed to creating spaces where every child\, regardless of circumstance\, can heal\, dream\, and build a stronger future through the transformative power of art. Visit drawchange.org to learn more or visit us at “drawchange” on all social media outlets! \n\n\n\n\nJohn Lysaker is the William R. Kenan University Professor at Emory University and Director of its Center for Ethics. Educated at Kenyon College and Vanderbilt University\, he also has taught at the University of Oregon. His central interest remains the good life writ large and various phenomena that enable and/or frustrate its emergence\, including the nature and import of art\, serious mental illness\, and friendship. Because ethical life courses through a wide field of usages and images\, his work engages historical texts as well as contemporary philosophers alongside and in dialogue with poets\, songwriters\, musicians\, and painters.\n\n\n\nPatsy Garrett Townsend is a Board member for the non-profit Atlanta organization\, Most Valuable Kids. An Atlanta-native\, she has been involved with nonprofits from a very young age. She started amping up her volunteering efforts with United Way of Greater Atlanta back in 2011 and has since served on multiple boards centered around the arts\, education\, and community outreach. Outside her volunteer work\, she is the Vice President & Senior Financial Advisor for The Garrett Group at Merrill\, where she works with families to help simplify their financial lives\, and allow them to focus on what’s most important to them. Patsy currently lives in Cobb County\, with her husband Danny and their dog\, Hattie.\n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Alliance is thrilled to display Killamari x Milo\, featuring murals created by illustrator\, designer\, and mural artist Killamari. Killamari x Milo is on view in the lobby of the Hertz Stage. See the installation when attending performances of Milo Imagines the World through July 27\, 2025. \n\n“The artwork is inspired by the playful doodles of Milo from the book and the layers of paint you would see from years of paint on brick. I tried to feature some references to the book like the cats\, rats\, and parakeets mentioned in Milo’s imagination\, while also layering words and tags. Keeping it playful and kid friendly.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBio\nHi I’m Killamari! I’m a freelance illustrator and designer based in the city of Atlanta\, specializing in character based illustrations and designs. I like drawing wacky characters and creating vibrant worlds by mashing together Khmer culture\, street art\, monsters\, martial arts and yummy eats! \nWhen I’m not illustrating\, I like to paint murals\, slap stickers\, eat pizza\, and kick it with my daughters Matilda and Celestine. He has taught history at Marist since 1994 and continually demonstrates for his students and colleagues a strong commitment to fostering understanding and collaboration among diverse communities of faith. Murphy is actively involved in developing educational initiatives and created a compelling “History and the Holocaust” seminar at Marist that is complemented by co-curricular international field trips to sites in Europe that were significant during the Holocaust. Murphy is a thought leader on religious solidarity and an advocate for combating hate and prejudice by drawing communities together. His contributions to education and interfaith dialogue are widely recognized and embody Pope Francis’ call to use discourse as a “privileged path to the growth of fraternity and peace in our world”. Murphy has received numerous awards\, including the Outstanding Educator Award from the Anne Frank Center in New York\, the ADL’s Abe Goldstein Human Relations and Unsung Hero Awards. His dedication to excellence in teaching has been acknowledged at Marist School with awards such as the Goizueta Chair of Excellence Award\, the Faber-McKinley-Stadler Award\, and the Frank P. Hagan Memorial Coach’s Award and\, on the state level\, with the Distinguished Service Award from the Georgia Independent School Association and twice with the Georgia Outstanding Educator of the Year Award from the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. He also has been recognized as Teacher of the Year by the University of Notre Dame. \nAdditionally\, Murphy has participated in prestigious programs such as the Museum Teacher Fellowship at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington\, D.C. and the Lerner Fellowship at the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous in New York City. Recently\, he was selected to participate in Leadership Atlanta’s Class of 2025. In addition to serving as director of the Bearing Witness Institute and teaching his Holocaust seminar\, Murphy moderates a Peace by Piece group\, which brings students from Christian\, Jewish\, and Muslim communities together to foster friendship and understanding. A native of Atlanta\, Georgia\, Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree in education and history from the University of Notre Dame and holds a master’s degree in theology from Spring Hill College. \n\n\n\n\n  \n
