Brooks Ashmanskas, playing Barry Glickman in The Prom, is a veteran of the stage, having performed in over 20 productions on and off Broadway. He received Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominations for his work in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. He’s also performed on several regional theater stages, The Kennedy Center, the Mark Taper Forum, and Arena Stage, to name a few. We are so thrilled that the Alliance Theatre will now join that list! Brooks was in the film “Julia & Julia” and has also appeared on TV in “The Good Wife.”
Brooks grew up in Portland, Oregon, and his earliest training was as a tap dancer! He moved into musical theater from there, because, while maybe not having the chops to be a professional dancer or tapper, he could surely dance, and then found that he could sing. Childhood trips to New York always involved seeing shows, including A Chorus Line, very early in its historic run, and he was hooked. The rest, as they say, is history.
Brooks’s performance in The Prom is absolutely pitch perfect. He’s a comedic genius and his Barry makes us laugh out loud one minute, and pulls at our heartstrings the next. His timing and mannerisms are whip smart and impeccable—it’s pure joy to watch Brooks on stage.
We hope this isn’t the last time we have him as our guest!
