The Prom’s “Mrs. Greene” is portrayed by Atlanta’s own Courtenay Collins. She’s no stranger to the Alliance stage, having performed in Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, way back in 2007 and again in 2009, and as recently as our 2014 production The Geller Girls. Courtenay is also bringing her popular cabaret show, Courtenay’s Cabaret: Home for the Holidays, to the Hertz Stage in December.
Courtenay is thrilled to represent her beloved Atlanta in the cast of The Prom! She is a graduate of Julliard and she spent many years on tour and in New York City before returning to Atlanta. She’s been a headliner at many cabaret events around the city, and has developed several shows which she has performed all over the country. Courtenay is also a vocal coach and has prepared many students, of all ages and experience levels, for important auditions, performances, and college entry auditions. And she has three recordings under her belt: Nightingale, One for My Baby, and A Merry Little Christmas.
Asked recently why she loves to perform, Courtenay responded, “I crave being around the brilliant, hardworking, over-achieving, intelligently creative people that make up every aspect of the theatre, both onstage and off. I perform because I believe that theatre and the performing arts make a difference. Theatre continues to affect me personally.”
See Courtenay shine on stage as the bewildering Mrs. Greene in The Prom through September 25.
