Karin Olson (Lighting Design) is based in Minneapolis, MN, where she designs at the Guthrie Theater, Ordway Performing Arts Center, Children’s Theatre Company, Penumbra Theater, Park Square Theatre, and with many itinerant Twin Cities theater and dance companies. She has also designed regionally for Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Syracuse Stage, and Trinity Repertory Theater. She loves working on new works and has recently created lighting designs for the premieres of The Song Poet with the Minnesota Opera, The Defeat of Jesse James and Runestone at the History Theatre, imagine a U.S. without racism at Mixed Blood Theater, and Spamtown, USA! at The Children’s Theater Company. Other recent designs include Antigone at Cleveland Playhouse, Redwood at the Jungle Theater, the Kung Fu Zombies Saga with Theater Mu, and Jason Moran’s Last Jazz Festival at the Walker Arts Center. Upcoming designs include I am Betty at the History Theatre and Let America Be America with Threads Dance Project. Karin has been honored as a '23-'24 McKnight Theater Arts Fellow.
