Alliance Theatre and The Atlanta Opera Announce Cast and Creative Team for Fiddler on the Roof

Alliance Theatre and The Atlanta Opera will co-produce a new staging of Fiddler on the Roof, with performances running from September 4 to October 5, 2025, at the Alliance Theatre. This collaboration brings together artists from across the theatrical and operatic worlds to present a thoughtful take on the classic musical. Embracing the power of family, traditions, and community to provide resilience and strength in the face of crushing hardship and transitions, Fiddler on the Roof is a story that is both universal and profoundly personal. This arts collaboration includes an upcoming exhibit at Atlanta’s Breman Museum, which features works by Vita Tzykun, costume designer for Fiddler, and her father Arkady Tzykun. Tickets are now available through AllianceTheatre.org and AtlantaOpera.org.

Leading the cast is Itzik Cohen in the role of Tevye. Cohen is known internationally for his portrayal of Captain Gabi Ayub in the Israeli television series Fauda (Netflix) and has appeared in acclaimed films such as A Matter of Size and The Women’s Balcony. Opposite him, Debbie Gravitte will play Golde. Gravitte is a Tony and Grammy Award winner for Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, with a long career in musical theatre and concert performance, including appearances with major symphony orchestras and in Broadway productions like Chicago and Les Misérables.

The production also features:

  • Deborah Bowman as Grandma Tzeitel/Shandel, a veteran performer and educator in Atlanta
  • Joanna Daniels as Yente, with regional credits including performances at the Walnut Street Theatre.
  • Kylie Dickinson performs the role of The Fiddler, bringing a background in professional dance and theatre.
  • Coby Getzug as Motel, who appeared in The Book of Mormon on Broadway.
  • Maya Jacobson as Chava, featured in the Yiddish-language production of Fiddler on the Roof.
  • Eli Mayer as Fyedka, recently in The Chosen and TV’s Power Book II: Ghost
  • Mia Pinero as Hodel, whose credits include West Side Story on Broadway.
  • Oliver Prose as Perchik, recently in Parade at New York City Center.
  • Jeremy Radin as Lazar Wolf, with stage credits including The Last Schwartz.
  • Rabbi Ron Segal, a respected Atlanta-based rabbi, joins the production as the Rabbi.
  • Amanda Fallon Smith as Tzeitel, recently in the national tour of Wicked as Nessarose

The creative team is led by Tomer Zvulun, Artistic Director of The Atlanta Opera, who directs the production. Obi award-winning composer, lyricist, pianist, and conductor Or Matias, known for his work as music director on Broadway’s Natasha, and Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, joins the team as Music Director. Alexander Lisiyansky serves as scenic designer, with Vita Tzykun designing costumes. Thomas C. Hase handles lighting design, and Dan Moses Schreier is the sound designer. Chloe Treat choreographs, with Nicholas Husson designing projections and Lindsey Ewing leading wig and makeup design.

In speaking about the production, Zvulun shared:

“This major collaboration is a watershed moment for the arts community in Atlanta. Not only because of the partnership between these two major organizations, but also because the piece we chose to tackle is important at this moment in time. We live in tense times, and artists must have the courage to convey the truth. Fiddler is not just a popular musical with catchy tunes. It is a mirror to humanity, and it demonstrates once more, that while history doesn’t exactly repeat itself, it certainly rhymes! Telling this story with all its heartbreak, humor, hope, and transcendental love is a personal dream for me. I am thrilled to do it with a group of supremely talented creatives and a sensational cast.”

In speaking about the collaboration, Tinashe Kajese-Bolden and Christopher Moses, the Jennings Hertz Artistic Directors at Alliance Theatre, comment:

“There’s a reason Fiddler on the Roof has endured across continents and generations—it sings to the soul. This glorious cast breathes new life into a story whose music is a heartbeat passed down through time, echoing the joys, sorrows, and strength of communities who have loved, lost, and kept going. We are overjoyed to share this vibrant production with Atlanta—an international city that continually fosters community and hope even in the most trying of times.”

After a year of construction, Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce three productions that will open the new Goizueta Stage for Youth & Families. Inspired by the massive construction project that uncovered the dirt floor beneath the Memorial Arts Building, Alliance will open with three productions all set underground and performing in repertory from January 2026 through the summer.  The Underground Rep will feature the delightful family musicals Into The Burrow: A Peter Rabbit™ Tale; Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Experience; and the world-premiere, The Great Ant Sleepover.

“We set out to build a space where wonder is always in season. This exciting repertory model lets us fulfill the promise of this new stage by offering families a reason to come back again and again – an open invitation to come whenever inspiration strikes, where every week holds something new to be enchanted by, and where the Alliance is a joyful part of growing up.” – Jennings Hertz Artistic Directors Tinashe Kajese-Bolden and Christopher Moses

The Goizueta Stage for Youth & Families will be a transformative space for Atlanta’s youngest patrons, featuring thoughtfully curated, year-round programming by Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on the campus of the Woodruff Arts Center. Alliance Theatre programming on the Goizueta Stage for Youth & Families will be supported by the Imagine Endowment, a permanent fund which will keep ticket prices accessible for a greatly expanded base of young audiences, provide field trip resources for Georgia schools, and support high-quality streaming productions for classrooms around the globe.

Schools can now apply online for transportation reimbursement to offset the costs of using school buses when participating in field trips to the Goizueta Stage for Youth & Families. Alliance’s Imagine Endowment Campaign will ensure that the lifelong academic and mental health benefits that come with early exposure to world-class theatrical experiences are available to young audiences of all backgrounds for generations to come.

With the announcement of The Underground Rep, the Alliance is pleased to announce another opportunity for the public to support its Imagine Campaign to make ticket prices affordable for all families and free or discounted for students. For a limited time, patrons can name a seat in the Goizueta Stage for Youth and Families, contributing to the life-changing legacy of this new stage dedicated to youth audiences. Seats are limited, so learn more about this unique opportunity today.

From recent research, we know that children who have access to the arts are two times more likely to graduate college; four times more likely to participate in math and science fairs; three times more likely to win an award for school attendance; and four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement. They also feel more engaged in school and more hopeful about their own futures.

“A young person leaves the theater with an increased sense of hope in their own future, and with a larger capacity for tolerance, resilience, and conscientiousness. Now that we empirically understand the impact that these arts experiences have on a child’s development, it’s up to us to figure out how best to scale these benefits to as many young people in our community as possible. That is the promise of the new Goizueta Stage for Youth & Families – a place where live theater is as accessible as it is inspirational. But we’re building more than a building; with the Imagine Endowment, we’re building a pathway to ensure that theatre is a birthright for every child in our community.” – Tinashe Kajese-Bolden and Christopher Moses
