Field Trip FAQs
Are student matinees edited or reduced for time in any way?
No. Our student matinee performances are identical to public performances with no adjustments made to cast, content, runtime, etc.
Where can I find the runtime?
Since we bring to life so many new works, we rarely have an accurate runtime until rehearsals begin a few weeks out from the first performance. Once a runtime is set, we will include it in your confirmation email, or in a followup email. The runtime will also be added to the show’s page on our website at that time.
Do you have talkbacks with the cast following student matinees?
Depending on the production, yes! Several factors go into planning a talkback, including actor availability and runtime. If we do include a talkback, this will be communicated either in your payment confirmation or within two weeks of your performance.
Do you provide playbills?
Programs will be available for select productions upon exiting the performance. You can also view a digital version of each show’s playbill on our website.
Do you offer Title I rates?
Reduced rates for Title I schools are available for select productions designated on the Field Trips page on our website.
Can you send us the script?
The script for a show can often be provided upon request ahead of time if an educator deems reading the play necessary to proceed with reserving seats. Please note sharing the script with a classroom or other non-disclosed persons is prohibited.
Do you accept payment for additional tickets day-of?
No. We cannot accommodate additional patrons arriving day-of. We can add tickets to your reservation if requested at least 48 hours in advance, pending availability in the performance. Tickets must be paid for prior to showtime.
Do chaperones need to pay for tickets?
Yes. Students, teachers and chaperones must all be accounted for in your total reserved seats. Everyone must pay for a seat.
Can chaperones call to purchase their own tickets?
No. All tickets must be requested by and purchased through the school’s lead.
Do you require a ratio of students to adults?
No. Most schools operate with a 10:1 student to adult ratio but ultimately this decision is up to the school.
If a performance is full can we stand in the back or aisles?
No. Everyone must have a seat and all seats must be paid for ahead of time.
Do you provide refunds for unneeded seats?
No. You are welcome to reduce the number of seats needed prior to your final payment date, but once payment is made we will not provide refunds with the exception of acts outside of the school and/or theater’s control.
Are all of your theaters wheelchair accessible?
Yes. We have elevator access to both the Hertz and Coca-Cola stages, as well as our second floor lunch spaces. Please let us know if your group has any accessible seating needs prior to arrival.
Are there concessions or vending machines available at student matinees?
No. We do not offer concessions or vending machines at this time.
Can we eat lunch on your campus?
Lunch spaces are limited and must be requested and confirmed ahead of time with your sales contact. All indoor lunch spaces are floor-seating only.
Can we purchase lunch on your campus?
While schools are welcome to bring sack lunches to enjoy on campus, we unfortunately do not have any food available to purchase. If you are looking to buy lunch, we recommend walking down the block to Colony Square.
Are there study guides for your shows?
Yes. Our Education team partners with local schools to create study guides for each production. These will be sent to every reserved school within two weeks of your performance. They can also be found on our field trips page at that time.
Is there a minimum number of tickets required to book a school group?
No. We are happy to host any number of students and educators, including home school families.
How many seats does your venue hold?
In most cases, we can accommodate up to 200 patrons in our Hertz Stage, 600 patrons in the Coca-Cola Stage, and 300 patrons in the Goizueta Stage for Youth & Families.
Am I able to attend a student matinee as a home school?
Yes. We welcome homeschool groups!
We cannot travel for field trips - can the Alliance Theatre bring a show to us?
We tour several shows to schools for in-house field trips each season. You can see a list of our touring productions on this page.
Do you offer any supplementary programs, such as workshops?
We do indeed! If you would like to add a pre- or post-show workshop, a standalone workshop, or any of our other educational offerings outside of a performance, please see this page for more information.
