A Midsummer Night's Dream

Atlanta Botanical Garden
Performances for A Midsummer Night's Dream are sold out.
Adapted and Directed by
David Catlin
Based on A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by
William Shakespeare

In a setting that even Shakespeare himself couldn’t have imagined, the Alliance Theatre presents a whimsical, outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. In Shakespeare’s most popular comedy, two couples deal with love and all its complications – confusion, jealousy, and passion. Further hindering the couples on their way to happily ever after are a lively band of characters and challenging events, including a band of actors, wood sprites and elves, and a botched love potion! Directed by David Catlin, founding ensemble member of Lookingglass Theatre Company in Chicago.

Please be mindful that A Midsummer Night's Dream is performed outdoors, which means that there may be cancellations due to inclement weather.

The run time for A Midsummer Night's Dream is approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. You do not need to bring your own chair to this event. No outside food or drink is permitted at the Garden. Longleaf, the Garden's restaurant, is open for lunch and dinner. Reservations are strongly recommended.

  • This is a show that’s hard not to like... thanks to many things — the placement in the Botanical Garden; the fun, intimate and inventive set; some simple but magical staging effects and a fantastic cast — I think most Atlantans will fall deeply under the production’s charming spell.
    Andrew Alexander, ArtsATL Theatre Critic
  • The most magical element of this production is the staging. Picture yourself in the Atlanta Botanical Garden on a late summer's eve. The moon is full, illuminating the giant floral garden statues - here an ethereal mermaid, there a fierce dragon. Everything seems magical. ... you feel like the garden is enchanted. And for 90 lovely minutes, maybe it is.
Amy Zipperer, BroadwayWorld Atlanta Theatre Critic
  • That [the cast] are led by the equally commanding and qualified Courtney Patterson and Joe Knezevich…is a distinct blessing. Patterson has rarely seemed quite as radiant as she does here playing the regal fairy queen, Titania, or as delightful as she is doubling as the impish forest sprite, Puck. And Knezevich’s scene-stealing, scenery-chewing turns as the bombastic fairy king, Oberon, and as the jocular jackass, Bottom, are a singularly hilarious hoot.
Bert Osborne, Atlanta Journal-Constitution Theatre Critic
  • "We are thrilled to have the Alliance Theatre present A Midsummer Night's Dream in the new Skyline Garden for their next season. I can't imagine a more magical and beautiful setting for one of Shakespeare's most creative and inspired works. The Alliance Theatre will bring it to life in our Garden with the Atlanta skyline shimmering in the background."
Mary Pat Matheson, President & CEO, Atlanta Botanical Garden
